Hi everyone! I'm Ben. I have a bachelor's degree in history and political science and a master's degree in government and politics. I tutor middle school, high school, college, and graduate students. I also review, proofread, and provide prompt feedback on writing in any form.

In addition, I work with professionals looking to improve their writing. If your writing skills are holding you back at work — I can help! If you want to improve the quality of your professional correspondence (emails, memos, reports, etc.) — I can help (I work regularly with students for whom English is not their first language)!

In graduate school, I studied American politics. In 2013, I began tutoring undergraduates in history and political science. In 2015, I started teaching at the college level. In my capacity as a graduate student, I led weekly discussion sections. I graded and provided feedback for exams, term papers, and other assignments.

For three semesters, I taught US Congress to upperclassmen. I've also taught political theory, pre-law, and introduction to American government courses. As a graduate student, I completed coursework on interest groups and social movements, congressional lobbying, campaign advertising, voter behavior, federal institutions, political theory (both modern and contemporary), and Congress itself.

I love working with students. I thrive in scholastic settings. I find exposure to other perspectives intellectually stimulating. I enjoy formulating and articulating complex ideas. The challenge of reconciling seemingly-divergent viewpoints and disparate traditions is incredibly rewarding.

Last year, I worked in DC for a congressperson and a US senator. In that capacity, I represented legislative team members at policy briefings and hearings. I also conducted policy research and composed policy memos for legislative correspondents.

I think you'll find that the breadth of my experience makes me useful in several different capacities. Please feel free to reach out at any time!

Proofreading,

Proofreading

On Wyzant, I’ve proofread middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate level writing. I’ve also worked with young professionals and retirees looking to improve their writing skills. I’ve proofread work correspondence, personal statements, cover letters, college application essays (undergraduate, graduate, law school, medical school, and business school), fictional writing exercises, grant applications, research papers, and dissertation chapters. Overall, I’ve spent eight years proofreading writing assignments. As an instructor, I’ve graded hundreds of essays (I know what professors are looking for).

As a graduate student, I wrote countless long-form essays. I wrote grant proposals for a non-profit organization and oversaw its grant writing operation. On Capitol Hill, I wrote policy memos for a member of the House of Representatives and a US Senator.

Great

Ben has a great sense of wisdom. As a future Mentor and Public Speaker his suggestions will really be significant with my endeavors. As a poetry writer, I'm looking to have some of my work published soon and I believe Ben will be the wright person with his experiences to help with proofreading and edit my work.

Very Helpful Tutor

Ben has been always a great tutor who gives perfect tutoring sessions for students. He always communicates with students to have better understandings of what students need help on and guides them through it step by step. By getting help from him, I could be a successful student in Econ History and Writing course at my university. Also, I could upgrade my writing skills to the next level.

Very knowledgeable tutor

Ben helped me review American civics, 20th century American history as well as the history surrounding the American constitution and amendments. He provided context to the important issues and was able to answer all my questions. He was a great communicator and always on-time for our lessons. I appreciated his help as I prepared to take the FSOT exam.

Excellent AP Gov tutor!

Ben was awesome with my sophomore son. We hired him a week before his AP Government and Politics exam and had 4 sessions with him. Ben was ‘thought provoking’ Jonathan said and he really kept him engaged. He challenged Jonathan with questions that drew his knowledge out and then Ben encouraged and explained the answers in a way that Jonathan was really able to understand and absorb. We do not have the results yet but know that Bens input made a difference in his preparation. We highly recommend Ben and would hire him again!

Ben literally helped my daughter understand history to turn her grade to passing!

Ben was a life saver for our family with history. I could not have imagined doing this without meeting him on the tutoring site. The home schooling from Covid-19 has been very difficult for our family. Ben made sure my daughter learned how to do the many history assignments she was missing and confused on. She also was not enjoying the history class. I am proud to say she is getting a very good grade in the class; proud of the work she is producing, and enjoys the class now. In her words: “Ben has been extremely helpful. Many times, while having to read articles or information he would make sure I understood everything before moving on. He also made a big impact on my writing. I am still not as quick at catching stuff, but he would help me make sense of what I was writing.” Thank you so much Ben!!
