I am a Washington, D.C. native, and I am passionate about education, foreign languages, and nutrition. After graduating with a degree in Arabic Language, I taught High School English in rural Indonesia for two years. I am fluent in Modern Standard Arabic and Indonesian. When I returned to the U.S., I taught for one year at a D.C. Public Elementary School near Congress Heights metro station. Through all my teaching experience, I have enjoyed providing engaging lessons that allow young learners to use their new skills as soon as possible. I have experience tutoring adults in English, Arabic, and Indonesian. I am trained and certified as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
As a math tutor serving at a DC public school located in a low income neighborhood, I planned and led daily small group lessons in math skills. I am familiar with the requirements of Common Core standards, and I have extensive lesson plans to draw from for teaching all math skills up to the fifth grade. I succeeded in raising my students' test scores by one full grade level after just one semester of tutoring.
I have tutored Arabic for many years. I began studying the language in high school, and I eventually earned my degree in Arabic from the University of Virginia. I have lived abroad in an Arabic speaking country. I was rated as 'Advanced' in Arabic speaking and reading skills in a State Department assessment. I am passionate about the language, and eager to help novice and intermediate students improve their conversation skills, vocabulary range, grammar, and confidence in the language.
