Hello! I am a native of Columbus, Ohio where my Japanese journey began over 10 years ago when I was in college at Ohio State University. I spent a year studying abroad at a Japanese university and returned to Japan after graduation where I taught English for two years on the JET Programme. I moved closer to Tokyo after that and taught second grade elementary at an international school.
On top of my experience as a teacher in a classroom setting, I have many years of experience as a one-on-one tutor. In Ohio, I tutored the children of Japanese employees of Honda for two years. While I lived in Japan, I tutored many Japanese in English outside of my full-time job.
I developed a highly fluent level of conversational Japanese from my time in Japan. I passed the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test in 2009. From the fall of 2013, I taught Japanese for the Global Language Network (GLN) for two years. During my time at GLN, I taught one class per week of both beginner and intermediate level Japanese.
While not a native speaker of Japanese, my pronunciation and knowledge of the language are excellent, and as an experienced educator and learner of Japanese, I can provide students with a unique insight into the language and anticipate their educational needs.
