Namaste! I have extensive experience teaching Hindi Language and Culture at US Department of State's Foreign Service Institute. At Foreign Service Institute I taught Hindi Language and South Asian Culture to American diplomats for their missions in South Asian countries. Namaste! I have extensive experience teaching Hindi Language and Culture at US Department of State's Foreign Service Institute. At Foreign Service Institute I taught Hindi Language and South Asian Culture to American diplomats for their missions in South Asian countries. I have taken assignments from the International Language Institute and Diplomatic Language Services in Washington DC teaching Basic/Intermediate/Advanced Hindi and South Asian culture to elementary students, university students, government officials and people who have have married to South Asians and want to learn Hindi.

I have been professionally teaching Hindi since 2004 so I have over 17 years of teaching experience. I can help you with Hindi Script, Grammar, Survival Hindi as well as Basic/Intermediate and Advanced levels.

I always tell my students that I will be accessible to them even when I am no longer their tutor and will answer questions by email. I believe that once a teacher always a teacher and once a student always a student.

I have been teaching Basic/Intermediate Hindi to government officials, working professionals and university students in Washington DC since 2009. I create individualized as well as group curriculums. My work also involves conducting group sessions for conversational Hindi/Urdu and Indian/Pakistani culture and administering language tests based on ILR scale and evaluating student’s language level in reading, writing and speaking in Hindi. I also undertake projects on Translating/Proofreading Hindi documents and Interpretation projects.

Shefa has helped me accelerate my learning of Hindi- both reading and speaking - through her patient teaching of the language fundamentals and through challenging me on the practical application of speaking conversationally. This dynamic approach keeps me engaged and excited about continuing my sessions with Shefa. As a side, with her help, I've been able to now speak Hindi for actual Acting roles!

Knowledgeable

Shefa was very friendly & knowledgeable but not terribly engaging. My teen daughter thought she was nice but didn’t seem too interested in continuing with Shefa’s Hindi lessons. It could be that my daughter tends to enjoy teachers that are a little more on the humorous or quirky side & Shefa is more the gentle, serious type.
