Using an interdisciplinary approach in my work, I assist your child to learn not just facts, but to also make key connections and to think critically about what they are learning. Creating meaningful learning experiences often necessitates creative thinking on my part--that is, it is my job to discover the ways in which your child learns best and to capitalize on those ways to facilitate meaning-making and understanding. This process may entail hands-on/manipulative learning, diagrams/pictures, movement or the Socratic method of questions that lead to an answer. In other words, I do what it takes to help your child succeed academically by creating points of success that work to build self-esteem and self-efficacy. My students always find me to be patient, persistent, caring, enthusiastic and funny--all characteristics that make a good teacher!
My personal background includes successfully raising 7 children, two of whom have learning disabilities. My educational background is broad and interdisciplinary and includes a BA in Psychology, an MS in Environmental Studies (emphasis Environmental Education) and an EdD in Curriculum Studies. I have taught in a number of settings including an environmental learning center and two Native American reservation schools.
