I hold a B.S. in Pure & Applied Mathematics from Stevens Institute of Technology, with a minor in Physics and a 3.5 GPA. I am also a Senior Software Engineer with professional experience at Microsoft, which gives me practical experience applying mathematics, logic, and quantitative problem-solving outside the classroom.
I have about four years of tutoring experience working with high-school and college students in both one-on-one and group settings. I have tutored Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III/Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Quantum Mechanics. I also have teaching experience through volunteer classroom instruction, summer teaching-assistant work, mentoring junior software engineers, and training junior sailors during my U.S. Navy service.
My approach is patient and adaptive. I first ask a student exactly where the material stops making sense. If they are not sure, I work backward to find the prerequisite concepts they do understand and identify the gap from there. I prefer to teach the theory behind a topic, but I adjust to the way each student learns best.
During sessions, I explain concepts, work through examples, and then have students solve problems themselves while I guide them. I also ask students to explain their reasoning back to me so I can confirm that they truly understand the material.
One of my goals is to make tutoring temporary. I do not simply give answers or encourage dependence. I want students to build the understanding and problem-solving skills they need to eventually work independently.
I especially enjoy helping students who have struggled because the explanation they received in class did not click. You do not need to already be “good at math” to work with me questions are encouraged, and we can rebuild the foundation together.
