I began my career in education in a somewhat unusual place: children’s yoga and mindfulness! Since 2018, I’ve worked with children from preschool through middle school in summer camps, nannying, and public education. I spent four years teaching at KIPP DC: Valor Academy, where I grew from a general education teacher into a special educator and case manager. I taught Reading and Math in special education classrooms and received specialized training in reading and math interventions. I worked with students to strengthen foundational skills, close learning gaps, and build confidence. I was honored as Case Manager of the Year for 2024–2025.
Every child is unique in their humor, curiosity, strengths, experiences, and approach to learning. I firmly believe kids can do anything they set their minds to, provided they receive the encouragement and support they need. My approach is to: show students exactly where they are through pre-assessment, then talk with them about their personal academic goals and what matters to them. After this, I create fun, engaging, interest-based lessons with clear goals. Within these lessons, I re-assess frequently so students can see how far they’ve come.
Learning should be fun! Students should look forward to tutoring—not dread it. Even if your student currently says they hate school, I believe we can change that. Kids innately want to learn, grow, and make their grown-ups proud. When academic anxiety or gaps in foundational skills get in the way, they can lose sight of that natural curiosity. My job is to help them find it again. I love getting to know each student, figuring out how they learn best, and finding creative ways to make concepts click. Together, we’ll build skills, confidence, and a genuine sense of “I can do this.”
