I’m a PhD-trained epidemiologist with expertise in pharmacoepidemiology, outbreak investigation, and public health surveillance. I have several semesters of graduate-level teaching experience in introductory and intermediate epidemiology and public health surveillance. I’ve supported students through office hours, review sessions, exam preparation and grading, and detailed feedback on assignments covering study design, measures of disease and association, bias, confounding, regression, survival analysis, and interpretation of epidemiologic results.

My teaching style is casual and centers on slowing down to deconstruct complex ideas, using concrete, practical examples to help cement epidemiologic principles. I’m especially passionate about good data visualization and helping students see how epidemiologic methods connect to the public health questions they care about. I’m also an experienced SAS programmer and can help troubleshoot graduate-level code, interpret output, and expand your coding toolkit.

I have substantial experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals, including first-author work in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). I enjoy helping students strengthen the clarity, organization, and interpretation of their own writing so they can communicate public health findings effectively. Most of all, I love hearing what excites students about epidemiology and public health and am always happy to talk about how their coursework and interests may connect to future career paths.

Epidemiology

I have my MPH and PhD in Epidemiology (University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health) with a graduate certificate in pharmacoepidemiology, and graduate teaching experience as a teaching assistant in Introduction to Epidemiology, Intermediate Epidemiologic Methods, and Public Health Surveillance — courses covering study design, measures of disease occurrence and association, bias, confounding, regression, survival analysis, and interpretation of epidemiologic results. My research applies epidemiologic methods to real public health problems across pharmacoepidemiology, outbreak investigation, and occupational health surveillance, with multiple peer-reviewed publications including work developing novel methodologic approaches to address gaps in public health surveillance. I have particular strength in academic writing for epidemiology — including methods sections, interpretation of results, and research proposals — and enjoy helping students develop clarity and precision in communicating epidemiologic findings. I also have hands-on experience working with large-scale real-world datasets — including claims data, syndromic surveillance systems, and national surveys — primarily using SAS, and can help students troubleshoot code and interpret output in applied settings.
