After more than 30 years of teaching physics and anatomy, I have learned that every student can succeed when concepts are presented clearly and built upon a strong foundation of fundamental principles. I earned my master’s degree in physics education from the University of Virginia and have taught students at a variety of levels, including tutoring in Conceptual Physics, Honors Physics, and AP Physics 1 and 2.
My teaching style emphasizes understanding rather than memorization. I break complex topics into manageable steps, use real-world examples and visual models whenever possible, and continually check for understanding so that students remain actively engaged in the learning process. By identifying misconceptions early and reinforcing key concepts through guided practice, I help students develop a deeper and more lasting understanding of the material.
I tailor each tutoring session to the needs of the individual student, whether through one-on-one instruction, virtual meetings, or small-group reviews. Sessions may include concept development, problem-solving strategies, test preparation, study skills coaching, and targeted review of classroom assignments. I encourage students to explain their reasoning, ask questions freely, and develop effective approaches to tackling unfamiliar problems independently.
My goal is not only to improve grades and test performance but also to help students develop confidence, critical-thinking skills, and independence as learners. Whether a student is striving to master foundational concepts, prepare for an AP exam, or simply gain confidence in science, I work to create a supportive and encouraging environment where questions are welcomed and progress is celebrated. I want students to leave each session feeling more capable, prepared, and successful in their study of physics or anatomy.
