I am a Howard University alumna with a Bachelor of Arts in Afro-American Studies and an incoming Master of Social Work student at Howard, where I will focus on child welfare and family preservation. My academic background gave me a strong foundation in research, critical thinking, and working with communities that have historically been underserved — skills that directly inform how I show up as a tutor.
I have been working with students in Washington, DC for several years across a range of settings. Currently, I tutor 9th through 11th graders at Sojourner Truth Middle/High School, where I provide individualized and small-group math support in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus. Prior to that, I worked with middle and high school students across four DC public schools through the Raising a Village Foundation, where I designed lesson plans, tracked student progress, and saw an average 18% improvement in test scores among my students. My sessions are always one-on-one or small group, which allows me to give each student focused, personalized attention.
My approach centers on meeting students where they are — not just academically, but emotionally. Many students who struggle with math have convinced themselves they “just aren’t math people,” and a big part of my job is dismantling that belief. I work to build confidence alongside competency, breaking down complex concepts into steps that feel manageable and connecting material to real-world context whenever possible. I am patient, consistent, and genuinely invested in each student’s growth.
