My name is Collin, and I have been teaching for over a decade at this point. After finishing undergrad at Wake Forest, I taught English abroad for several years before returning to the United States to pursue an advanced degree. After getting an MA in Russian and East European Studies from Florida State University and an MA in history from George Washington University, I was accepted into a PhD program at the University of California, Davis. At UC Davis, I was a Teaching Assistant for several years, teaching subjects ranging from world history to more niche topics like the history of sexuality. After completing all of my comprehensive exams, I taught the class History 145: War and Revolution in Europe, which covered the long 19th century (~1789-1914). While writing my dissertation, I spent two years teaching US history at Compton College. Consequently, I have a great deal of experience teaching a variety of subjects within the field of history.
I always strive to make the material I present as broadly accessible as possible. I eschew jargon and try to speak simply to my students. This practice limits misunderstandings that more technical language frequently causes, as well as allowing a more level field to those who are new to the topic and those more experienced.
