Bio

I help ESOL learners, graduate students, and professionals produce clear, well-organized academic and professional writing—whether you’re working on a paper, thesis, application, or report.

Before tutoring, I worked as a research director at the U.S. Department of Education, where I reviewed and edited large-scale research reports. I bring that same focus on clarity, structure, and precision to my work with students.

I hold a PhD in Education Policy, a TEFL certificate, and a Maryland State Teaching License in ESOL and French. I have over 25 years of research and 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience with both secondary and adult learners.

My experience includes teaching adult ESOL at the Washington English Center (Levels 5–8), teaching in Prince George’s County Public Schools, and working one-on-one with international students and professionals.

In our work together, I focus on:

Organizing ideas clearly
Strengthening arguments and support
Improving clarity and flow
Developing revision strategies you can use independently

Live sessions ($75/hour):
We review your writing together, identify key issues, and create a clear revision plan.

Editing & feedback (~$0.07/word):

Essay Writing

I have extensive experience teaching students how to write clear, well-organized essays for academic and professional purposes. I hold a PhD in Education Policy, a TEFL certificate, and a current Maryland State Teaching License in ESOL--all of which require the ability to write clearly or to teach writing to others. I have worked primarily with adult learners, including teaching at the Washington English Center (Levels 5–8), where I regularly help students develop structured essays in English. I also have experience teaching in one-on-one settings, supporting students in planning, drafting, and revising their writing. In my work with essay writing, I focus on helping students develop logically organized paragraphs as a first step toward teaching full essay structure. I then guide students in building arguments, supporting ideas with relevant examples, and improving clarity and coherence across their writing. My approach combines direct instruction on essay concepts with guided practice, helping students understand structure while also developing their ability to revise and improve their own work independently.
