I am an experienced educator specializing in English Language Learners (ELLs), with a strong background in reading, writing, and academic test preparation. I hold advanced training in education and language development, with certifications and coursework focused on English Language Development, content-area literacy, and culturally sustaining pedagogy. I have a Bachelors degree in Professional English from South Carolina State University and a Masters of Arts in Educational Transformation from Georgetown University. My work centers on helping all learners build confidence, language proficiency, and academic success.
I have over 8 years of teaching and tutoring experience, primarily with middle school students (grades 6–8), and additional experience supporting high school students and adult learners. I have taught in classroom settings as well as through one-on-one and small-group tutoring, both in person and online. I worked in my university writing center for 3 years as well. Much of my work has involved targeted support in reading comprehension, academic writing, vocabulary development, grammar, and test prep, including scaffolded practice for assessments.
My instructional approach is structured, supportive, and student-centered. I break down complex texts and tasks into manageable steps, explicitly teach academic language, and use modeling, guided practice, and feedback to support student growth. For test preparation, I focus on reading strategies, writing organization, language accuracy, and test-taking skills, while also helping students understand how to approach questions with confidence. I strive to create a learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and capable of succeeding.
