I am a former middle school educator certified in Math and science 4-8 in the state of Texas. I joined Teach for America after completing college, and gained 2 years of experience teaching middle school math and science (6th and 8th grade) in a traditional classroom setting. I specifically have experience working with low-income and racially diverse student populations as I taught in inner city San Antonio schools. In this role, I was responsible for curriculum/lesson internalization, lesson planning, classroom behavior management, and parent communication related to student growth and challenges.
My teaching approach involves meeting students where they are at, assessing their current understanding of the subject, and creating lessons that scaffold information in a way they can fully understand. I enjoy using gamification as a method of mastering the material, as well as interactive activities to promote student engagement. I developed essential leadership skills in this role and became passionate about helping students reach their highest potential in and out of the classroom. I am eager to bring my teaching expertise to students through Wyzant tutoring.
