I am a graduate of Middlebury College, where I earned a B.A. in Political Science and English and graduated summa cum laude. My academic background emphasizes close reading, analytical writing, and argumentation, and I have extensive experience working with complex texts in literature, history, and political theory. In addition to my academic training, I currently work in a professional policy research environment, which informs my emphasis on clarity, structure, and precision in writing and verbal reasoning.

I have over five years of tutoring experience working one-on-one with middle school, high school, and college-level students in English literature, writing, and the social sciences. My tutoring has taken place primarily in individualized settings, where I tailor sessions to each student’s goals and learning style. I have also worked with students with dyslexia and other learning differences, and I emphasize strategies that support reading comprehension, organization, and confidence alongside content mastery.

My approach focuses on helping students understand how strong arguments are built, how to read actively and efficiently, and how to express ideas clearly in writing. Rather than relying on memorization or shortcuts, I work with students to develop durable skills in analysis and communication that carry across subjects and assessments. I aim to create a focused, supportive environment where students feel challenged but capable, and where progress is measurable over time.

Gifted tutor with a deep love of political philosophy

I had a relatively short (40 minute) lesson with Gage earlier in the week and was so impressed by how much he was able to help in that time. He came with a thorough set of comments on my paper but was also super dynamic and open to switching gears when I had questions (and niche ones, at that!) about another class entirely. I could tell he was often thinking many steps ahead of me, and I appreciated how quickly he figured out where I was getting knotted up and how to help me untangle and reconstruct my argument. He was also incredibly flexible and generous with his time, and was willing to meet in person, which I really appreciated. I can’t recommend Gage more highly! He is a brilliant philosopher & writer and a patient, engaging teacher.
