Hi, I’m Sonia! I am a graduate of the University of Chicago as a History and English major (with honors). More recently, I completed a Fulbright-funded Master’s in communications in Taiwan.

I have extensive experience tutoring in all humanities subjects (English, writing, reading, history, spelling, social studies, language arts) for people of all ages (K-12, college, or adults). I can also help with test prep (SAT or ACT English/Writing as entrance exams for private middle and high schools i.e. ISEE) and college applications — my own college application essay was featured in a Wall Street Journal article about how to write a successful common application essay.

I love 1:1 tutoring because I am eager to cultivate my classes to give the student exactly the support that they need on any given day, whether that’s study tips, homework assistance, encouragement, or anything else. I also spent several years living abroad, so I am quite comfortable talking with people whose native language is not English, and I love helping people improve their English skills as well. I also bring extensive writing experience of my own to the job, having worked at several media companies, in research and editing roles, and as a Presidential Writer at the White House.

I’m excited to work with you or your child. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
