Hello! I'm Sylvie, a 4th year medical student currently interviewing for anesthesia residency. I've always loved teaching; my story in education began when I was in college as a fencing coach. From there, I expanded my teaching services into the academic sphere. Hoping to pass the lessons I learned as a student with dyslexia forward, I have continued to serve in various roles providing academic support to students with learning differences.
My undergraduate degree was in Psychology, and much of my coursework was focused on pedagogy. I completed a senior thesis analyzing the effects of "Zoom University" on students with learning differences among other educational psychology projects. From this experience and my own, I bring a personalized approach and tailor my methods to each student.
I believe in the usage of grounding techniques such as mindfulness in test preparation, as I've found many students falter in the face of pressure and can use much of their cognitive load subconsciously, thus distracting them from the test material at hand. I find it is important to build a longitudinal mentoring relationship with each of my students and seek to increase their confidence not only in test taking situations but in daily life as well.
