I'm Deb. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in anthropology and Latin American Studies and I hold a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University. In addition to my formal university education, I have completed extensive in-depth training in cross-cultural communication and adult learning theory and approaches. I bring diverse experience from 20 years managing progressively complex international programs and multilingual, multicultural collaborations, beginning as a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America and most recently I spent ten years at USAID managing large resilience and development programs across Latin America and the Caribbean. I am fluent in Spanish and have worked in bilingual contexts across a variety of settings. In addition to Spanish, I am also a writer and editor and offer considerable experience developing high quality reports, essays, and manuscripts in English. (publication list available upon request)

My teaching approach is conversational, student-centered, and rooted in real-life communication, drawing on years of experience facilitating workshops, coaching professionals, and mentoring colleagues across diverse backgrounds. I have worked with learners ranging from elementary and adolescents to adults in both one-on-one and group settings, helping them build confidence, fluency, and practical language skills for academic, professional, and personal growth. I am excited to help learners connect with the material whether in Spanish or English, and learn the skills needed to express themself verbally and in written materials.
