Hi, I’m Ashley!
I am offering tutoring with the following subjects:
AP Biology
AP Physics 1, 2, C
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB / BC
Variety of undergraduate level Biology / Bioengineering courses
I bring my personal brand of empathy and patience which I think are essential for understanding my students’ perspectives and needs to communicate difficult material effectively. I remember how stressful it can be as a student to not understand everything right away, or needing concepts described in different ways in order for it to really “click.” I take joy in working one-on-one with students, being flexible to their needs and strengths, until they can find confidence in understanding their class material.
I discovered my love for teaching during my PhD, where I TAed undergrad and grad courses for 2 years. I learned to identify patterns in student difficulties, redesign explanations from multiple angles, and guide learners through complex assignments with patience and clarity. I spent hours writing personalized feedback, helping them understand their mistakes without judgment. I bring this kind of careful, personal instruction to any subject at any level.
My 10 years of biological and engineering lab research experience also aids with my STEM instruction. I got hands-on experience with many of the experimental methods that classes might cover (cell culture, molecular analysis, DNA/protein engineering, biosensor design). I am also able to guide students in furthering their engineering career goals - whether it’s learning the best practices of writing scientific papers, giving a poster at a science fair / conference, or getting into a science lab for the first time.
