Hi, my name is Tomi. I am an incoming M1 student from Howard University, where I studied Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Mathematics. I recently scored a 526 (132/130/132/132) on the MCAT, and I desire to use my knowledge and test-taking strategies to help others succeed, as well. This includes not just MCAT tutoring, but also other subjects. I have almost a year of experience in tutoring college students in math (algebra, pre-calculus, calculus), and chemistry, both independently and through a Howard program.
When I tutor, I try not to just teach the content, but to guide my students into developing a thinking system that helps them to be successful on their own. For example, when going through a problem, I like to have the student explain how they think about the problem while they do it, and build on that thought process so the student understands how to think through similar problems in the future by themselves. I like to provide my students with work they can do at home to see how they improve independently.
What draws me to tutoring is seeing my students grow as learners, and improving over time. I find it particularly enjoyable to see my students doing well on subjects they used to struggle with. I also enjoy getting to know my students and building a good rapport with them.
