I am a geographical information science graduate and environmental specialist. I'm originally from Uganda, East Africa but now live with my wife in the United States. After completing my undergraduate, I worked in environmental compliance consulting for about 13 years, then pursued a Masters in Geographical Information Science. Though I was formally trained as an environmental manager, my passion for sharing knowledge drew me into mentoring roles first with my colleagues and subsequently with my peers at graduate school. I am currently pursuing doctoral degree in Geographical Information Science, specializing in landslide predictive mapping.
My journey through academia has taught me much about education and has offered a rewarding cultural experience that I hope I can share with my students. My philosophy about teaching is that it is a process of sharing and discovery rather than lecturing, and that it should be empowering for both student and tutor. As such I seek to learn from my students as much as they learn from me. I also believe that the purpose of education is not to score straight A’s but to gain skills and insights that help us better understand our world and solve problems.
I'm also happy to provide a first free one hour session to understand the scope of your assignment/tasks and determine whether I am a good fit for the job.
