My name is Madi! I graduated with departmental honors from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, with a BA in Music and a minor in Art History. While there, I also took courses across multiple subjects, including religion, English, American Studies and Gender Studies. I'd like to think I am familiar across the range of Humanities and Social Sciences courses. I also have four years of experience in journalism! I wrote for Vassar's award-winning publication, "The Miscellany News," for four years, and spent two years as a section editor, sourcing and vetting content from up to 20 writers a week.

I have been teaching off and on since high school. In high school, I worked in my English department's Writing Center, editing and revising papers for all grade levels. I absolutely loved English class, and felt I especially shined in my AP English courses. In undergrad, I spent my senior year as the Assistant Music Director for a small community choral group, teaching music to enthusiastic singers of multiple ages and abilities. I also co-directed one of Vassar's student-run choral ensembles for two years, effectively preparing challenging music from a variety of genres.

My main teaching belief is that students will get nowhere without positive reinforcement. I value my ability to lead students to success using their own confidence and skills, and extrapolating techniques specific to my writing and music direction work out to all subjects. As someone who was very recently a student, I know that students can immediately tell whether a teacher is excited to help them learn. I have found that my enthusiasm has brought more results than any time spent plunking notes out at a piano or going over sentence structure for the umpteenth time. If you think your student would benefit from a teacher with a mindset and approach like mine, please do not hesitate to reach out and schedule a lesson. Thank you so much!

Voice (Music)

I have taken classical vocal lessons for over 10 years and have been trained extensively in bel canto singing. I have solo experience with choirs, orchestras, opera and musical theatre. My senior recital at Vassar College consisted of an hour of music across multiple genres, including a 20-minute cantata by JS Bach. I have taken lessons from many skilled musicians, including Drew Minter, who has sung with the National Cathedral Choir, and Barbara Hollinshead, a member of the Washington Bach Consort and teacher at American University.
