James is a Washington, D.C.-based practitioner who has spent thirteen years at the intersection of Congressional affairs, politics, and advocacy. A former Congressional staff member (and later lobbyist), James served as the director of the Congressional engagement program at The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, where he developed and led an academic program to teach undergraduate students about Congress and the legislative. Through that program, he has helped thousands of students find their civic voice through personalized meetings on Capitol Hill with Members of Congress and legislative staff. Currently, he works with federal agency officials and members of the intelligence community to help them understand how Congress makes and debates policy.
Additionally, James conducts tailored advocacy trainings for nonprofits, frequently contributes programming for DC-based experiential learning organizations, mentors young people interested in government service, and writes about civic discourse and experiential education for democracy-building journals.
