Hi! My name is Ben and I teach AP US Government and AP Comparative Government in northern Virginia.
I have a deep passion for this subject material and a proven success rate in teaching these courses specifically. I worked on Capitol Hill before I became a teacher -- and before that on several state and national campaigns -- and I continue to be politically involved in my personal capacity.
Most importantly, though, I LOVE my job as a high school teacher and getting to share my enthusiasm for politics with students. I take pride in my ability to engage students with topics that aren't always interesting, but so important to learn. Every year my kids' exam scores are above the school, state, and global averages :)
In tutoring, I'm flexible with how we use our time: we can spend the full hour going over the SCOTUS cases, practicing FRQs, working on a specific unit/chapter, or I'm also happy to provide a 10,000 foot overview of it all. I trust YOU as the student to know best what would be an effective use of our time, but I'm also happy to take the reins and scout out areas to work through together.
MY EDUCATION:
University of New Hampshire, B.A. in history (2020)
University of New Hampshire, M.Ed. in secondary education (2022)
George Mason University, M.A. in political science (in progress! 2027 expected finish)
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:
“You are the first history teacher I've had where I'm not lost. I like the fact I can ask you questions about something we just went over in class but you don't explain it in the same way, or if you do, you are able to somehow make it in a way I understand. I also just like your vibe and how kind you are.”
“Your teaching kick started a love for government that I didn’t know I had and that will stick with me! I will never forget this class and you as a teacher."
“I really like how you talk to us instead of talking down on us. When you lecture it feels like a chill conversation instead of an essay you have to vigorously take notes on.”
