Hello! My name is Fred. I've been a teacher most of my life in several subjects, including mathematics, English, history, and music. I have three masters degrees, including from UC Berkeley (math) and University of Maryland (history and library science), and an Artist's Diploma from Berklee College of Music (I recognize how unusual it is to have degrees from such similar-named schools!). I've taught at the high school and college level, and at two different test prep centers, including at Stanley Kaplan. I was a National Merit Semi-Finalist based on my PSAT score and I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, GRE, and GMAT exams. I love teaching, and believe it or not, I especially love teaching test preparation, because most standardized tests are more about solving puzzles than they are about making assessments of knowledge.
My approach to standardized test preparation is based not only on building up your command of relevant techniques, such as solving equations or applying rules of grammar, but, perhaps more importantly, on developing sound strategies both for making use of time and for reducing test-taking anxiety. In addition, I recognize that everybody has different learning styles, and my job as a teacher is to adapt to whatever works best for you.
