Bio

I've always had an itch to help others understand the intricacies of science, math, and engineering in the academic world. While at this point in time, I do not have any wish to pursue a teaching certificate, I would like to do what I can to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in the minds of those that are willing to try harder in those subjects.

I've always had an itch to help others understand the intricacies of science, math, and engineering in the academic world. While at this point in time, I do not have any wish to pursue a teaching certificate, I would like to do what I can to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in the minds of those that are willing to try harder in those subjects.

My experience includes tutoring student athletes at my alma mater, University of Utah, where I graduated with a 3.38 GPA and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (as well as minors in Naval Science and Physics). During this time, I was a personal math tutor to two athletes and a physics tutor to one, as well as having open office hours for those with general math or science questions. As I only discovered this my senior year at the University, I only taught for my final semester; however, all of my students did very well in their classes and finals under my tutelage.

I have experience through Calculus III, partial and ordinary differential equations, basic computer science programming, dynamics/statics, mechatronics, thermodynamics, robotics, nuclear and particle physics, optical physics, and quantum physics. If you have a question as to whether I am able to tutor it, please send me a message and I will get back to you within a day. I can provide supplemental teaching in most math, engineering, and science topics.

I am available most evenings after 5 pm and on the weekends. I may not be available short notice, but the more lead time you give me the more likely I can help you out. My base rate is $40/hour, but I answer any short questions over message for free (after first lesson) and I don't keep the clock running if I have to look something up in the middle of a session. I have tutored some mechanical engineering as well as assisted one of the assistant professors at the University of Utah NROTC when teaching thermodynamics during the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012 (after graduation), respectfully. I graduated with a 3.38 GPA with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and will submit my official transcript if requested. I do not feel I am qualified to teach some of the higher level mechanical engineering classes that I did not do well in school in, but for all others (including statics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, basic computer programming, basic material science, and many more) I feel I am fully qualified and able to tutor.

I've taken courses in calculus-based mechanical and electrical physics, modern optics, quantum physics, and nuclear and particle physics, passing all courses. I have also been trained by the US Navy in the operation of a nuclear reactor, to include all theoretical physics interactions. My first career was being a nuclear submarine officer, which involved additional training to know all aspects of nuclear particle interactions.

Knowledgeable, patient, well versed

Every session with Thomas is beyond helpful, I’ve been tutoring with him for over a year and he’s by far the best tutor I’ve had. I’m an aerospace engineering major and even though that’s not relevant to his field he’s still able to learn my material and teach it to me better than my teacher. He doesn’t mind explaining things 10 different times when I’m not understanding the material . He doesn’t stop until everything is clear and perfect. I definitely will be tutoring with Thomas until I graduate, I recommend to everyone!
