Southern Connecticut State University (History)
Hello, my name is Matthew.
I am a history and education major at Southern Connecticut State University. I am a full time student currently entering my senior year. I have made the deans list as and I have received an award for academic success. I am studying to become a high school history teacher. I have competed my teaching observation already and plan to complete my student teaching next year.
I love history and have been fascinated with it since early childhood. My primary goal as a teacher is to help others not only learn history, but enjoy learning about it. I hope to use alternative methods of teaching history to help the students not only remember what they learn but remember it by connecting it to events relevant to today. I believe I will be an effective history tutor because I have studied and passed the classes students struggle in, but I also have a modern understanding of how these subjects can be taught to be both interesting and relevant to a student. I am still in school therefore I have experienced many different teaching methods and know which were generally effective and productive.
I have taken over 60 credits in history at a collage level and graduated from Amity High school in 2012. I specialize in European and US history but I also have extensive knowledge of none Western history such as Chinese, African, Middle Eastern, and South East Asian. I am the vice president of the history club at Southern; I am also a member of the future teachers organization. Outside of history I am an Eagle Scout with over 10 years of leadership and teaching experience within the Boy Scouts of America. I have 5 years of direct teaching experience during which time I was a religious school teacher
I am ready to dedicate my best and most sincere efforts into helping the students learn and enjoy history. I hope together we can finally I form a fun and productive bond in which learning can be both fun and relatable.
Thank you for considering me and I hope to hear from you in the future

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
