Hi! My name is Jade, and I am a recent graduate of Deerfield Academy. While at Deerfield, I was awarded Early Induction to the Cum Laude Society. I will be attending Cornell University this fall as an Environment and Sustainability major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
I have been tutoring for 3 years now as a peer tutor in Deerfield's peer tutoring program and through Learn To Be, an organization that provides free tutoring to students from low-income backgrounds. As an elected Head Peer Tutor at Deerfield, I was responsible for organizing weekly drop-in tutoring sessions and leading a cohort of 6 peer tutors. I am proud to say that I had multiple returning students who vocalized their delight at seeing great improvements in their creative and analytical writing.
My approach to tutoring is to let students develop skills by showing them the steps to mastering a skill. Meaning, showing students the reasoning behind an answer instead of just providing the answer to a difficult problem. As a student who has experienced countless hours of SAT prep, essay writing, and solving math problems, I understand how to persevere through obstacles in learning. Furthermore, having tutored students with quantifiable grade point increases after receiving my help in English and math, I can confidently say that I can help students build the skills they need to reach their goals.
