My junior year of college, I tutored a high school student who had missed months of school due to a traumatic injury. Together we learned about the transition from reluctant learner to engaged student. After earning my B.A. in English from Williams College, I lived in Germany, managed a professional hockey team and tutored, this time a graduate student studying American government. These experiences taught me the teacher and student learn from each other, and together achieve goals that may be challenging for the student alone.
After having children, I returned to the classroom for 18 years as a Sunday School teacher to students aged 4-16, as well as teaching a personal safety program there for 8 years.
In 2010, I began working with my father, a talented storyteller. We designed and implemented a school curriculum utilizing his stories to teach imagination, creative writing, critical thinking and public speaking. In 2012, children asked for book versions of his stories. We have published 8 books, all of which I have edited. He is currently editing my first book.
In 2016, I began tutoring college application essay writing, and have helped students gain admission to Ivy League schools, small liberal arts colleges, BS/MD programs at large state schools, engineering and business programs and more. I love helping students tell their stories in their unique voices, launching them into the next stage of education. I also work with students of all ages on writing, editing, creativity and imagination, eager to inspire others and open their eyes to the potential each and every one has to achieve great things!
I’m an avid reader, love new discoveries in ancient history, fly fishing, hiking, travel, and athletics. I’ve played and coached both soccer and ice hockey, taught blind students to ski, and love to create crafts and artwork.
I teach through positivity, and quickly respond to any questions or inquiries, so please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to meeting you and working together!
