I was salutatorian at my high school, with a 3.99 GPA at graduation. I took many AP classes and the corresponding tests, including all AP history classes (World, US, and European) and both AP government classes (Comparative and US).
While I was in high school, I tutored my fellow classmates for upcoming AP class tests and exams, usually on a 1-on-1 basis. Furthermore, while in college in New York I have tutored my classmates for upcoming politics exams and have also helped tutor NYC high schoolers who were preparing for AP history and politics exams. All of this experience was usually in groups of no larger than 3.
In regards to Spanish tutoring, I took Spanish I and II in my freshman and sophomore years of high school and then self-studied to be able to skip Spanish III and IV, being placed into AP Spanish language in my junior year. I was able to achieve an A in both semesters and a 5 on the AP exam. Since then I have lived in Costa Rica and Argentina for a combined period of roughly a year, including having written academic essays and critiques in Spanish. I tutored Spanish when I was in high school as a junior and as a senior, usually in small groups of 3-4, and tutoring students enrolled in Spanish I and II.
One of the principles I hold true for tutoring any topic is to avoid memorization of complex terms when possible. In my personal and tutoring experience, the priority should be to understand greater trends and patterns that are present, instead of just focusing on rigid topics. Of course, the specifics are important, but I feel that emphasizing them too much sometimes causes students to miss the forest for the trees. However, every student is different and I adapt my tutoring style accordingly.
