I believe whole heartedly that education is the ultimate form of freedom and allows individuals the luxury of choice. If you want control of your future, educate yourself and know that learning is on going. It was the first thing I realized when I became a teacher. My responsibility as an educator is not only to educate others, but also to continue my own journey as a student. 25 years later, I am still learning and passing on knowledge and life skills.
My teaching experience has been obtained through the NYC Department of Education. I am certified at the elementary level (Pre-k thru 6) with a Bilingual Extension. I have always worked with English language learners as well as students with disabilities providing tools and modifications to facilitate learning and the acquisition of language. currently teach literacy through social studies at P.S. 140 in District 8. I have maintained an effective/ highly effective rating throughout my career. I’ve also been part of a team called After-school Reading Club (ARC) in NYC which provides children in the shelter system opportunities to improve their reading skills. Students living in shelters often fall behind due to the constant moving. In this program I worked as the head reading teacher at a shelter called Help Bronx Crotona providing reading and writing instruction to small groups as well as one to one instruction.
I am confident about my qualifications in working with students of mixed abilities, levels and cultural diversity. My lessons include differentiated activities that are driven by data and state standards.
