Are you struggling to understand Hegel? Is formal logic perennially recondite? Not sure how put your ideas on paper? I am happy to help! I am a PhD student in philosophy at Villanova University with over five years of teaching and tutoring experience. My goal as a educator is to help students gain competence and confidence in their classes by tailoring my approach to the specific needs of the student. The key to my pedagogy is showing how different concepts are parts of a larger whole. This holistic approach enables my students to better understand what they are struggling with and move past it.

Before starting my PhD, I taught math at The Frederick Gunn School, a small boarding school nestled in the idyllic forests and farms of northwest Connecticut, after completing my M.A. in philosophy from Boston College in 2023 and my B.S. in Philosophy and Mathematics from the University of Oregon in the spring of 2020.

My focus is German and French philosophy, e.g., Husserl, Heidegger, Kant, Hegel, Merleau-Ponty, etc. Beyond my specialization, I have taken courses in, taught, and tutored students on ancient philosophy (Plato, Aristotle, etc.), early modern philosophy (Descartes, Locke, Hobbes, Hume, Leibniz, Spinoza, etc.), late modern philosophy (Kant and others pervious mentioned), continental philosophy, analytic philosophy of language, ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics. Furthermore, I have continued to study, teach, and tutor formal logic throughout my academic career, including propositional logic, predicate logic, natural deduction, and non-classical logic. I have taught writing and composition during my courses and as a writing tutor.

Discrete Math

I taught discrete math for a term as an undergrad TA, as well as having taken the discrete. I taught both math majors and non math majors, including C.S. majors. I also have an extensive undergraduate career in mathematical logic, logic, and set theory, namely a semester research program into mathematical logic and Gödel's work and took a graduate seminar on advanced set theory. In addition, I also took a number of undergraduate and graduate level courses on logic in the philosophy department.

Philosophy

Philosophy

I am a PhD student in philosophy at Villanova University, with a focus on the relationship between phenomenology and the history of philosophy. I received my M.A. in philosophy from Boston College in 2023 and my B.S. in Philosophy and Mathematics from the University of Oregon in the spring of 2020.
Reading

Reading

I've been tutoring and doing philosophy for near four years. My approach in philosophy is very texted based, focusing on the hermeneutical difficulties and gramtical structure. I beileve that reading is a skill and should be treated as such. My goal is to teach my students to be sensitive to the complexities of the texts they read.

he listens understands and is helpful in explaining the nuances of logic

He has helped me grasp the rules of proofs, truth tables and allows me to make mistakes without judgement. He leads without doing the work, and because of that he has been able to introduce me to ways of formulation, and comprehension in the complex language of logic.

Analytical Philosophy Introduction to Logic-Texas A&M

Timothy provided me targeted guidance on 8 Logic problems that I had difficult with. Timothy jumped right in, worked through two with me and found a solution that not only I understood but explained why. Timothy is very professional and very in tune to the stresses I was experiencing. I have had multiple sessions as I come up against problems I can get through but not understand. Thank you Timothy
