Experienced Researcher and Instructor in Synthetic Organic Chemist

Hello! I hold a degrees in chemistry from the University of Connecticut (B.S., 2018) and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (PhD, 2023). I have experience with multiple curricula in chemistry, serving as a teaching assistant for undergraduate organic chemistry lectures (organic I and II) and lab courses at both institutions. In these roles, I have lead small group problem-solving sessions and conducted hands-on instruction of laboratories skills for groups of 20-40 students, Additionally, I held office hours in a smaller setting (less than 10 students, but often one-on-one) to supplement course instruction. The core of students who attended on a regular basis frequently scored higher than their peers on exams. I am equally at home teaching fundamental concepts in organic chemistry as well as its practice in the laboratory. More recently, I have begun my independent career as a senior scientist at a leading pharmaceutical company.

I am a passionate instructor as I recognize the impact this can have on the success of students. We all succeed when we are engaged and genuinely interested in the subject at hand. At its core, problem solving is the key to success in chemistry. My teaching philosophy seeks to break down tough concepts into their basic components which are more easily manipulated. This allows for a more manageable approach in piecing together multiple basic concepts, and thus enabling mastery of complex topics. As an instructor, I hope to get students excited about their studies by incorporating real-world examples where appropriate; after all, chemistry is the central science!
