I’m a PhD scientist, GIS professional, and experienced college professor with a background in Geography, Earth Science, Environmental Science, and geospatial analysis. I’ve spent more than a decade teaching college students and helping them make sense of complex scientific and spatial concepts.
My academic and professional experience includes GIS and spatial analysis, environmental research, landscape change, geology, physical geography, environmental science, and field-based research. I have also worked professionally with geospatial and environmental data, giving me the ability to help students connect what they’re learning in the classroom with real-world applications.
I especially enjoy helping students with GIS and mapping projects, including getting started with a project, finding and organizing spatial data, understanding raster and vector data, working with coordinate systems and projections, performing spatial analyses, and creating clear, professional maps and graphics. I can also help students think through larger research and environmental projects—breaking a complicated assignment into manageable steps and determining which analyses and visualizations will best answer their questions.
As a professor, one of my strengths has always been explaining difficult concepts in a way that feels approachable. I don’t want students to simply memorize steps or click the right buttons—I want them to understand what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and how to apply those skills independently.
Whether you need help understanding an Earth Science or Geography course, working through an Environmental Science assignment, or figuring out where to begin with a semester-long GIS project, I’m happy to meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
Being able to break down complex topics and explain material in a straightforward manner.
I would love to be able to assist you in your learning!
