Algebra 1

I have been teaching Algebra 1 for 20+ years. I enjoy bringing the functionality to light so that students understand why they need to know this.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a special education teacher at the middle school and high school level for 30 years. Many of my students are or were on early elementary academic levels. I taught elementary math for 4 years during the summer at the Village for Children and Families. I ran a summer tutoring program for 2 years in Franklin, MA for elementary age students. I taught English at a school for 4, 5, and 6th grade parent-less students in Walpole, MA, for one academic school year.

Elementary Math

Most of my 30 years of teaching has included elementary math skills. I have created games, puzzles and activities for most functional skills including fractions, decimals, proportions, and place value.

Geometry

I have a BA and MA in special education, in addition to 30 years experience teaching math and English and 20 years experience tutoring.

Phonics

I have been a special education teacher for the past 30 years working with Emotional and Learning Disabilities. I also have 5 years of group home experience working with developmentally and emotionally disabled adults. I have a BA in special education from Southern CT State University (1984) and a MA from St. Joseph's University (1994) in West Hartford in Special Education and Counseling. While at Southern I was trained by Ms. Ellis (assessment) and Mrs. Gallistel (teaching) in the "Gallistel and Ellis" phonic method of teaching and evaluating Phonics reading. I provided phonics pull out services for 6 years to middle school and high school students with Language Learning disabilities. I have kept my practice relevant by continued professional development literature in the areas of reading and reading for content area comprehension.

Prealgebra

I have been teaching pre-algebra skill for 20 of my 30 years of teaching.

Reading

I am trained in the Gallistal-Ellis method of remediation and assessment of phonics. I have 30+ years teaching reading and math, as well as a BA and MA in special education

Social Studies

I have taught high school self contained programs within public schools for the past 20 years. This has included teaching one to two social studies courses each year. I have taught Civics, US history part 1, US history part 2, Contemporary Issues, Sociology, Psychology, World Cultures, Elementary Geography and World History.

Special Needs
