I'm originally from Japan and have been living this country for more than 20 years. I've been teaching Japanese in both classroom and private tutoring settings for quite some times.
Besides teaching Japanese to non-Japanese speakers, I am also teaching Japanese and Math ( algebra 1) at a weekend school for Japanese-native students in CT, who need to keep their Japanese and Math skills up their standard while they attend their local schools during the week.
While I teach Japanese, I always make the lesson interesting using other subjects not only ordinary Japanese history or culture but also math, science, current events, music and sports. Learning the language through text books is one thing but using the language in real setting is much efficient.
If you need to learn Japanese language, I think you found the right tutor.

Great first lesson
Yoko was extremely well prepared and the lesson was informative, challenging and fun. She has obviously been a teacher for many years and knows what she is doing!Abby, 1 lesson with Yoko
Excellent First Lesson
We used today to determine what level to start the lessons from in the future. She brought a variety of materials to use as it was unclear where we would start. She very effectively managed to keep the lesson going smoothly, prodding and helping me as appropriate. Very comfortable and enjoyable.Jim, 1 lesson with Yoko
Great first lesson!
My daughter really enjoyed the lesson. She seemed to learn a lot of new Japanese. Yoko was warm, friendly, and they seemed to get along quite nicely. She came well prepared and was quite familiar with the text she is using with my daughter. Fabulous first lesson!Edie, 1 lesson with Yoko
Very patient and helpful, she is flexible with her schedule and fun to work with! Very informative about the Japanese culture and does not go too fast or too slow. I have already learned SO much in a short period of time, I definitely recommend Yoko.Kendall, 5 lessons with Yoko
