Throughout my career I have taught reading and writing to both small groups and to individual students. My one-on-one approach is informative, fun, and designed to boost testing scores. Whether preparing for SATs, ACT, GMAT, or general improvement in classroom, my teaching method is to quickly assess the needs of the student and tailor my lessons to meet these particular needs. My style is collaborative, engaging and results-oriented. I respect my students' time and will not waste it. I am an Emmy Award-winning writer with a background in educational media. Helped me with my common app. essay. He was very patient, knowledgeable, and really helped me express what I wanted to say. I had a great time working with him.
Ray really listened before he gave his feedback on my essay. He pointed out the positives, asked me questions about what I wanted to communicate and gave me examples of where I achieved my goal and where I fell short. When I did not understand his point he was able to explain it differently (e.g. by showing me with specific examples). After just two sessions, I feel so much better about my personal statement and the college application process in general.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught public speaking to both students and professionals. Part of my Masters Degree at the Fairfield University School of Corporate and Political Communications involved working with individuals to make their speaking styles more effective. I've also worked extensively to help students write and deliver their graduation speeches. I have also worked with professionals who have English as a second language to help them express themselves in phone conferences and public meetings.
