Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

As part of my entrance into Southern's Special Education program, I researched and submitted a paper about learning with ADHD. In my research I discovered that the majority of individuals with ADHD are very intelligent and usually do not perform well in school due to the challenge of adjusting to the classroom setting. I enjoy working one on one with ADHD student and I use a high energy teaching style and encourage the learner to stand up and move around if it is better for them.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

For the last two years I have been a paraprofessional at an elementary school. I am currently pursuing my special education teacher's certification through Southern Connecticut State University also. I understand how to engage the active learners we have in schools nowadays. I enjoy creating innovative lesson plans to keep the student excited about learning.
Fitness

Fitness

I am a professional boxer and a U.S. Army combat veteran. Fitness has been a big proponent of my life always. I am the remedial physical training officer for my army unit and enjoy imparting different fitness and nutrition strategies to struggling soldiers. I also am a boxing coach and have coached multiple amateur champions.
Martial Arts

Martial Arts

I took 3 years of goju-ryu karate and have been boxing my whole life. As an amateur I won the state junior olympic title numerous times and in 1999, I came in second in the national tournament. I was also trained by a combative's instructor in the army previous to my deployment to Iraq.
Phonics

Phonics

During my studies at Southern University I have taken two courses that detail phonics instruction. Depending on the students age I have made lessons that incorporate pictures, movement, and sounds into phonics instruction. I am a paraprofessional at an elementary school and am very adept at helping struggling readers wherever they are experiencing problems. I hope to help your student understand phonics and gradually develop into fluent readers.
