Hi there, my name is Madelyn! I’m so glad you found my tutoring profile. Here’s a little bit about me: I’ve been working with middle school students for six years, including four years teaching 6th Grade Social Studies with a focus on World Geography. Hi there, my name is Madelyn! I’m so glad you found my tutoring profile. Here’s a little bit about me: I’ve been working with middle school students for six years, including four years teaching 6th Grade Social Studies with a focus on World Geography. Before that, I taught U.S. History to 8th grade students. For the past two years, I’ve also taught an Argumentative Writing course, where I help students build strong, evidence-based arguments and write clear, organized five-paragraph essays. In this class, I emphasize conducting academic research and using evidence effectively to support a claim.
Across all my classes, I work with students in whole-group settings (~20 students), small groups (2–4 students), and one-on-one, depending on individual needs. My approach to both teaching and tutoring begins with getting to know my students and understanding their goals. From there, we create a personalized plan to help them achieve success.
My educational background is in the social sciences: I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Communication from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in Secondary Education. I am a certified History/Social Studies teacher for grades 4–12. While most of my classroom experience is with grades 6–8, I’m passionate about supporting learners of all ages and helping them overcome academic challenges.
My primary areas of expertise include Social Studies (Geography, World History, U.S. History, etc.), Writing, and Reading (informational/nonfiction texts). I’d love to collaborate with you or your student to determine how I can best support your goals. Please feel free to reach out with any questions- I look forward to working with you!
