I hold a PhD in Math from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master's in Math from Cal State East Bay. I currently work as a data scientist at a Fortune 500 insurance company, where I build and peer review statistical models used to price and manage risk.
I have been teaching and tutoring for almost 10 years. During my PhD, I taught in classroom settings as well as one on one, working with undergraduate students on courses ranging from algebra and precalculus through calculus and introductory statistics. Since then, I have continued tutoring one on one, working with students spanning elementary school through high school, including AP Statistics and AP Calculus.
My approach focuses on building real understanding rather than memorizing steps. I make sure a student understands why a method works before we drill practice problems, and I adjust pacing based on where each student is, whether that means slowing down to close a gap or moving faster once a concept clicks. Because I use statistics and mathematical modeling every day in my professional work, I can also show students where the math they are learning actually shows up in real analytical and technical careers, which tends to be especially motivating for calculus and statistics students.
I tutor middle school math, high school math (algebra, geometry), precalculus, calculus, AP Statistics, and SAT math.
