Bio

Hi! My name is Kim, and I'm a Yale PhD candidate based in New Haven CT but often works remotely. My goal is to help you (no matter who you are!) meet whatever math and statistics goals you've set for yourself. I'm currently pursuing my PhD in Health Policy at Yale University, which is helping me apply the mathematical and statistical models I've picked up over the years to solve big health problems (like the one we're experiencing right now). Outside of this, I love to read, write, run, do yoga, and drink coffee with my friends.

In addition to majoring in Mathematics and Statistics from Michigan State University (class of 2017), I've got almost ten years of tutoring and TAing experience in several levels of university-level math, including college algebra, calculus (through multivariable calculus), probability, mathematical statistics, and proof-based mathematics. My approach to tutoring is (and always has been) to meet students exactly where they're at and to get them where they want to go. Math can be intimidating, and it's a big step to reach out for a tutor and ask for help. I love working with all sorts of people - from people who don't think they're "math people" to society's future engineers, statisticians, and mathematicians. Let's work together to make a personalized plan for you!

To schedule lessons, feel free to reach out to me via Wyzant. Since I'm a graduate student, my schedule is extremely flexible - mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late nights are all fair game for me!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra II, often also called college algebra, is one of my favorite courses to teach. I have served as a TA for this course at Michigan State University and tutored students after hours at the Mathematics Learning Center, as well as informally at the high school level. I use Algebra II regularly in my everyday life, too - it's instrumental in the statistical and quantitative research methods I use in public health!
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I've TA'ed for several Yale biostatistics courses and I hold a bachelor's degree triple-majoring in Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics from Michigan State University. I have always loved statistics! I have almost 7 years of experience tutoring statistics at the collegiate level, ranging from introductory to capstone courses. I am beginning to pursue graduate study in statistics at Yale, which means I'm reviewing many of the core concepts I learned in college and high school - so I'm up to date with your needs, whatever level you may be!
Calculus

Calculus

I have extensive experience tutoring calculus at the high school and college level. Specifically, I have served as a TA for Michigan State University's Honors Calculus II course and tutored single- and multi-variable calculus as an undergraduate tutor, as well an informal tutor at the high school level. Plus, I use calculus regularly - my research involves using probability distributions (which heavily depend on the integration techniques we learn in calculus) to adapt quantitative research methods to health policy questions.
Econometrics

Econometrics

Econometrics is something I use all the time in my research, and I love teaching and studying it. As a Ph.D. student at Yale and an economics/mathematics/statistics undergrad at Michigan State University, I've excelled in four (going on five) semesters of econometrics: one undergraduate course, two introductory Ph.D. courses, and one course in panel data methods (taught by Dr. Jeff Wooldridge). At Yale, I'm currently taking an applied econometrics course through the School of Management, so I'm well-versed in both theoretical and applied econometrics topics.
GRE

GRE

I have tutored various subjects in math and verbal reasoning at the collegiate level for almost 10 years. Additionally, I recently took the GRE and earned scores of 168 verbal, 166 math, and 5.0 writing. These scores, plus several other qualifications, got me admitted to Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California at Berkeley, among several others. I love teaching the subject matter, but equally love teaching test-taking strategies!
Probability

Probability

Probability is one of my favorite courses to teach. I've taken several years of probability at the high school, college, and graduate level. My research at Yale involves using probability and statistics to understand policy and problems in public health. I've got nearly a decade of experience tutoring and TAing mathematics and would love to help you wherever I can!
R

R

I hold a bachelor's degree triple-majoring in Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics from Michigan State University, and have been using R in almost all of my statistics classes since 2015. I have three years of using R as a full-time research assistant and have almost 5 years of experience tutoring statistics at the collegiate level. Currently I use R as a graduate student at Yale, which means I'm reviewing many of the core concepts I learned in college and high school - so I'm up to date with your needs, whatever level you may be!
STATA

STATA

I hold a bachelor's degree triple-majoring in Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics from Michigan State University, and have been using Stata in my research since 2014. I have three years of using Stata as a full-time research assistant and have almost 5 years of experience tutoring statistics at the collegiate level. Currently I use Stata as a graduate student at Yale, which means I'm up to date with your needs, whatever level you may be!

The best tutor I've ever worked with

Kim is hands down the best tutor I've ever worked with. I'm starting a new job and I've been very busy. Meanwhile I've been doing my MBA and have to take a difficult managerial economics course this quarter. The concepts are tough to understand and my Prof doesn't do the best job teaching them. It's been super challenging until I met Kim. Kim was extremely patient and made the concepts much easier to understand and digest. She has a lot of knowledge and is ready to help. I've worked with other tutors before where you have to force them to help or chime in. That's not the case with Kim. She's super hands on and is passionate about economics. She genuinely wants to see you do well and will do everything in her power to help.

I'd give 10 stars if I could!

My first session with Kim brought me back from the brink! She was able to seamlessly integrate my admittedly patchy understanding of R Studio into a lesson provided important universal concepts and immediate practical assistance. She's patient, easy-to-talk to and encouraging.

great econometrics tutor

Kim was well informed on my econometrics homework. She also assisted in writing some of the problems which helps me interpret the problem better. Thanks!

Outstanding expertise in R

Kim helped me with a homework assignment that involved coding and running code in R. She made herself available on an extremely short notice and explained everything thoroughly and clearly. She is very pleasant and answered all of my questions! She even reviewed a video with me to ensure I uploaded my assignment properly. I would definitely schedule a future tutoring session with her. Excellent tutor!
