American history has always been my passion. Since my childhood I've been fascinated by the incredible American "experiment." I always enjoyed diving into the stories of fascinating characters and episodes in our past, or visiting places that figured in America's history. I went on to earn a BA in History at Wesleyan University with extensive training in writing. I began at first as a journalist in print, radio and tv news media in the New York City area, and also worked as an investigative journalist in Washington, D.C.
Finally, for the past 32 years, I have worked as a Senior Legislative Assistant to the New Haven City Council (Board of Alders). With the Board, I combined my passion for history and government with my writing expertise to draft legislation, speeches, correspondence and press releases. In addition, I helped craft public policy and resolve constituent issues. It was very satisfying to put my extensive knowledge of history and government to work in trying to help resolve community concerns. I always enjoyed sharing information and perspective with politicians and citizens trying to understand the history and background on an issue. I always found it exciting to show folks how relevant history and the political process is to what is happening in the present. I also enjoyed presenting at Community Government Day seminars in the elementary and high schools.
I have an extensive command of American History, Government and Politics. I have studied it at Wesleyan and lived it as a journalist and by working closely with politicians, government staff and community members on the local, state and federal levels. I can write about this material and teach it in a very personable, down-to-earth way which truly brings our nation's fascinating history and our political process to life.
