Hi, my name is Rafael. Thank you for visiting my page! Here’s a bit about my background and how I help pre-medical students succeed.
My path to medicine was not linear. I began my academic journey at Miami Dade College and later transitioned to Florida International University, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude. I went on to attend Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where I earned my MD, and I am currently completing my residency training in Radiology at Yale.
Having navigated the medical school application process from a non-traditional starting point, I understand the challenges applicants face at every stage — from crafting a compelling narrative to preparing for interviews and making strategic application decisions. I successfully progressed through AMCAS, interviews, medical school, and the residency match, and I now enjoy helping others do the same.
I work with students applying to medical school by providing AMCAS application review, personal statement guidance, interview preparation, and overall mentorship for medical school success. My approach is practical, honest, and personalized, with a focus on clarity, authenticity, and strategic positioning of your experiences.
Whether you are a first-time applicant or a reapplicant, I aim to help you present the strongest version of your story and navigate the application process with confidence.

Career Development

I am a physician trained at Johns Hopkins and currently a resident at Yale. I help pre-medical students navigate the medical school admissions process through AMCAS application review, personal statement guidance, and interview preparation. My approach focuses on authentic presentation of each applicant’s background. I work with both first-time applicants and reapplicants seeking a stronger, more competitive application.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I am a physician trained at Johns Hopkins and currently a resident at Yale. My journey started in community college, and with hard work and the right guidance, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a physician at a top-tier medical school. Now, I help pre-medical students navigate the medical school admissions process through AMCAS application review, personal statement guidance, and interview preparation. My approach focuses on authentic presentation of each applicant’s background. I work with both first-time applicants and reapplicants seeking a stronger, more competitive application.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I specialize in helping students craft clear, compelling personal statements that effectively communicate their story, motivations, and readiness for medical training. Over the years I have worked with many applicants to refine their essays helping them move from rough drafts or scattered ideas to focused, well-structured narratives that highlight their most meaningful experiences. My guidance focuses on the writing process itself: identifying strong themes, organizing experiences into a coherent narrative, improving clarity and flow, and ensuring the essay reflects the applicant’s authentic voice. I also provide detailed feedback on structure, tone, and editing so the final statement reads polished while still sounding genuine. Through extensive experience reviewing and editing personal statements for medical school applicants, I understand the common pitfalls students encounter, such as overly generic essays, weak storytelling, or lack of reflection, and help them transform their drafts into thoughtful, persuasive statements. As a physician trained at Johns Hopkins and a current Radiology resident at Yale, I also bring firsthand knowledge of the medical school admissions process, which helps me guide students toward the themes and qualities that admissions committees value most. My goal is to help each applicant present their experiences in a way that is both authentic and impactful.
USMLE

USMLE

I am a physician trained at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and currently a Radiology resident at Yale University. My tutoring focuses primarily on USMLE exam strategy and clinical reasoning, rather than simply reviewing content. There are many excellent resources that already teach the material. What most students struggle with is how to think through questions, recognize test patterns, and apply knowledge efficiently under exam conditions. My approach is to teach students how to break down complex stems, identify key clues, eliminate distractors, and consistently arrive at the correct answer. I focus on developing the reasoning frameworks and test-taking strategies that allow students to perform well across Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3, helping them approach each question with confidence and a clear method.
