About Amaan

Bio

On average, students give up learning a subject after three weeks. What’s worse is they switch tutors every few months. Often, it’s the product of two things: frustration and boredom. Their tutor is either too demanding or too lax, or they make the subject material boring. And so, much like my attempts at making the perfect bagel, the learning process becomes an epic failure.

In Swahili, we call it “changamoto” or challenge, and I know it all too well from personal experience. But through this experience, I was able to identify the process that works for me, and find a way to positively impact my education, and later that of other students.

It all started in school where I did after-school math tutoring. At the time, I had just completed my IGCSEs and was going into the IB program. Throughout, I enjoyed playing with numbers, so much so that I ended up joining UCLA as a mathematics and economics double major - with honors! Then, the coronavirus hit and in 2020, I joined the Pandemic Professors non-profit, wherein I sought to make a difference by tutoring underprivileged kids in Python. But it wasn't enough, so after a long year of research and writing, I published “Numbers Game,” an 800-page college mathematics textbook.

The book is my proudest accomplishment, and I guess Yale thought so too because I managed to get into a Master’s program at their renowned School of Management. It’s been incredible learning from world-class professors, meeting industry pioneers, and exploring all the club/event offerings every week. I think my contribution here has been especially impactful because I’ve worked in several capacities - real estate, academia, fitness, etc. - and the exposure has really elevated my perspective.

All in all, I believe I bring a unique background and passion for teaching. I’m confident I can make a difference in students’ lives and fix any “changamoto” they may have with learning. If you’re interested, feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Cheers!

Basketball

As captain of graduate intramural team, I brought a group of students from multiple Yale schools (medicine, management, nursing, etc.) to play in the season. Working together with our coach, we managed to win games by switching between playing zone and playing man on our defense, and optimizing our offensive strategy using 76er's GM, Daryl Morey's "Moreyball" approach.
Career Development

Career Development

I have worked with the career offices at UCLA/Yale, making changes to my own resume, cover letter, and Linkedin, and that of others too. The people I've worked with have landed opportunities at UCLA Recreation, a cruise line, and an IBM certification. In fact, my own profile has landed me internships in accounting, academia, private equity, fitness, and more!
College Counseling

College Counseling

I've undergone the US (& Canada) college application process for both undergraduate and graduate programs, and currently working on MBA programs as well. Most recently, I managed to get 9 out of 11 grad programs (including Yale, UChicago, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, and many more), with scholarships! I've also had the pleasure of helping my friends craft their own applications.
