My name is Ashira and I am a PhD student at Yale University. I have a passion for teaching and hope to become a professor one day. I have extensive tutoring experience, working with a wide range of students and ages. I have tutored kindergarten through 5th grade students at Third Street Elementary School twice a week for 4 years. I sit with each student one-on-one for an hour at a time. I have been a Hebrew studies teacher for 5 years, teaching students one-on-one and small group settings (4-6 students) how to read, write, and speak using the Hebrew alphabet. I am well versed in Hebrew blessings, which many students learn and study for in preparation for their bnei mitzvot. Additionally, I scored in the 99th percentile overall on the SAT, with 93 of the total 96 possible points in the evidence-based reading and writing sections and 56 of the total 58 possible points in the math section.

I founded a local program that connects high school students with elementary students to provide free tutoring. I organized 10 tutors in sessions with 20 different students from grades one through six, each of whose teachers reached out to me. My experience working with different student tutors gave me a greater perspective on teaching strategies and techniques.

I begin each session by asking my students what they would like to gain from our session, how they feel they learn best or worst, and any other information they feel would be helpful. As we work through the material, I encourage continuous questions, pausing, and re-explaining whenever necessary. All strategies will be employed in order for the student to best understand the content.

I have been a Hebrew studies teacher for 5 years, teaching students one-on-one and small group settings how to read, write, and speak using the Hebrew alphabet. I am well versed in Hebrew blessings, which many students learn and study for in preparation for their b'nai mitzvot. We can start from the basics or go straight to longer blessings and Torah portions depending on your skill level. I am very excited to meet you!

Knowledgeable tutor that's great with tweens.

My daughter has been working with Ashira for a few months now and she has learned so much and enjoys it, too! Her reading has greatly improved, she's learned prayers, and has expanded her vocabulary. I highly recommend Ashira!

Amazing. Highly recommend for d'var Torah assistance

Ashira was responsive and it was very easy to schedule a tutoring session with her. Ashira was enthusiastic and engaged my daughter in a grade-appropriate conversation about her difficult Torah portion. Ashira went above and beyond and sent my daughter a summary of their discussion shortly after the session. This was very helpful as my daughter sat down to write her d'var Torah.
