Hello! I am a certified school counselor and veteran educator with over 20 years of experience supporting middle and high school students. My career includes 10 years as a high school English teacher (grades 9–12), 5 years in middle school (grades 7–8), and the last 5 years as a school counselor. This dual background allows me to understand both classroom demands and student stressors. Many capable students do not need more information; they need structure, strategies, and reliable support to become independent learners. I specialize in college essay writing, literature analysis, time management, organization, and executive functioning.
As an English teacher, I help students master critical thinking and literary analysis. I teach them to evaluate complex texts, track thematic development, and decode literary devices. Whether your student is tackling advanced high school literature or middle school reading, I make texts approachable, giving them the tools to form original arguments and write confidently.
My counseling background gives me a powerful edge in college essay coaching. I help students overcome writer's block, brainstorm authentic topics, and let their unique voices shine so they stand out to admissions committees. Beyond polishing mechanics, I break the daunting application process into manageable steps, reducing anxiety and keeping your student on schedule.
Ultimately, my goal is to bridge the gap between academic stress and independent success. By combining my knowledge of English literature, essay writing, and college prep with proven counseling techniques, I support the whole student. Together, we can turn overwhelm into actionable strategies, create structured habits to replace disorganization, and build the lasting skills and confidence your student needs to succeed.

I hold a Bachelor's in English and have 20 years experience teaching reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, literary analysis, grammar and the writing process. My approach is on concrete skill building, addressing student weaknesses and providing actionable strategies for implementation. My goal is for students to be able to take these strategies and, with time and support, learn to incorporate them independently.
Literature

Literature

I have more than 20 years of experience in education, including teaching, academic support, and school counseling. With a bachelor's degree in English and advanced degrees in education & school counseling, I have extensive experience helping students develop strong reading comprehension, literary analysis, and writing skills. I specialize in helping students move beyond basic understanding of texts to create insightful, well- supported analytical essays.
Study Skills

Study Skills

In my role as a school counselor I am responsible for teaching students study skills in their classrooms. I also work one on one and in small groups with students who need extra support. I begin by helping students organize their materials and declutter. I focus on the information, papers, and assignments needed and help students create an organizational system that works for them. I then ask questions about how a student feels they learn best and based on their answers I create an organization and study plan that best supports them. In addition to teaching study skills, I also review strategies on taking a test. By breaking things down into manageable pieces it helps students go from feeling overwhelmed and anxious to confident and motivated.
Writing

Writing

With 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher and my current role as a school counselor, I offer a unique dual perspective on the writing process. I have spent two decades helping middle & high school students master basic essay structure and grammar to advanced literary analysis. I excel at helping seniors navigate the college admissions essay process so they go from not knowing what to write to feeling confident with their final product.
