I LOVE helping students craft and polish essays that have helped them gain acceptance to prestigious colleges and universities such as Brown, UVA, UCLA, NYU, Bryn Mawr, Smith, and others. As a private tutor, high school English teacher with 18 years of experience, and a former alumni interviewer for Yale, my alma mater, I have unique insight into what universities are looking for in candidates and can help students get there!

While the college essay process can be uniquely challenging and highly stressful, I am here to make it easier and have guided students through all stages, from brainstorming to proofing. I take the time to get to know my students - their passions, quirks, talents, and aspirations - so I can help them craft essays that show colleges who they are and why they are strong candidates.

As an experienced teacher of AP English Literature, AP English Language and IB English Literature, I have helped students hone their analytical, reading, and writing skills in order to reach their goals in these rigorous courses. As both a classroom teacher and tutor I also have extensive experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students who face various learning challenges, and have designed individualized instructional programs for students who feel they are not challenged by their current English instruction.

Ultimately my job is to meet students where they are and help them reach their potential as thinkers, readers, and writers. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing young people grow in their abilities and confidence!!

Flexible, Supportive, and Expert AP Lit & College Essay Tutor

Elizabeth is an outstanding AP Literature tutor! She went above and beyond, even reading a book to help my child prepare for an upcoming paper and engage more deeply with the material. She’s flexible, knowledgeable, and always available when needed. Her constructive feedback and practical advice improved both skills and confidence, and she helped ease my student’s anxiety about the class and writing. Additionally, my child is a senior and was mid-essay writing for college applications when we started working with Elizabeth, and she reviewed her writing and provided valuable assistance and feedback, offering insightful advice and suggestions. We’re so grateful for her dedication and support—highly recommend!

Excellent Art History Tutor!

Elizabeth helped me expand my ideas, while also teaching me how to format a college level art history essay. Her feedback was clear, thoughtful, and really helped me understand how to strengthen my writing, I recommend her for not only art history but any writing in general!

Went above and beyond

Elizabeth went above and beyond to help my son in a couple of IB classes which included a presentation on a poem by Borges and an essay for World History. She provided a lot of insight which helped him better appreciate the poem. She also reviewed his outline and helped him refine his thesis statement on an essay for World History. He will be meeting with her again later this week.

Elizabeth C.

Elizabeth had a great structure for teaching first, we made a personal goal and plan. From there she gave resources and during the class, she kept asking me questions to keep engaged. And this really helped me alot!
