Hello students! My name is Katelyn. I am an English coach that specializes in American English pronunciation and accent reduction. I have worked with students from all over the world in pronunciation development. I started my career at the Boston Language Institute in 2018 and continued to teach pronunciation at private institutes such as OISE Boston and FLS International. My goal is to help English learners improve their American accent. I have worked with business professionals as well as college students to improve their speech intelligibility. When we have the gift of being multilingual, the English pronunciation of words can be influenced due to our other languages. I think accents are beautiful because they show us where we are from, however, there are times accents might get in the way of being understood when presenting, talking with friends, or in your work setting. This is where I come in! I have a bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University in communication disorders. I also have my license as a speech therapist assistant and a master's degree in international higher education from Lesley University. Additionally, I have worked with students from Japan, China, India, South Korea, France, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil and more, so I have good idea of the common pronunciation issues students experience from these areas. I first start out a pronunciation lesson by doing a pronunciation diagnostic to observe what sounds you need help with. I then go into training you how to make the sound with your mouth and how to recognize when to use it. We will practice making the sounds and include role play exercises so you are able to feel confident when speaking with others. I also teach intonation (the rise and fall of the voice) and word/sentence stress (emphasis in words and sentences). I am a passionate and enthusiastic teacher! I care very much about correction, improvement, and helping students reach their English goals.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Southern Connecticut State University and am licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in Massachusetts (Credential ID: 1828-SP-SA). Over the past seven years, I have taught pronunciation to international students in both group classes of up to 15 and individual sessions at the Boston Language Institute, FLS International, and the New England Language School. My expertise includes teaching mouth positioning for consonants and vowels, as well as intonation and word stress.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in communication disorders from Southern Connecticut State University. I studied phonology and communication disorders in children and adults. I have 25 hours of speech therapist observation. I am also Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) certified in Massachusetts (No. 1828-SP-SA) and have experience being an SLPA in Everett, MA. I received my Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification from Oxford Seminars in 2016. I spent three years (2018 - 2021) teaching English and pronunciation to international students in Boston, MA at Boston Language Institute, FLS International, OISE, and New England Language School. I have taught private, corporate clients, and students ages 16 - 60 years old in English and pronunciation instruction.

Katelyn is the best! I learn a lot in her classes and also have a good time. She uses many resources that make everything easier to understand. Right now, I'm working on the correct pronunciation of some consonants and vowels in English.

I'm in the field of psychology and I asked Katelyn to help me with my Russian accent, which was thick. We practiced the difference between /v/ and /w/ sounds, learned how to pronounce "TH" and "R", light L and dark L, /i/ and long /i:/, and many other sounds. As a speech therapist, she clearly sees where I am struggling, she is considerate, precise, and gives easy-to-follow directions.
