I am a former financial advisor, insurance agent, and soldier in the U.S. Army (military intelligence). At American Intercontinental University I majored in finance and mathematics. I graduated summa cum laud (with high honors) and have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.
I have specialized training in teaching and empowering students with disabilities. I am also a parent of an autistic daughter whom I taught to read and perform basic math literacy tasks.
During my professional life, I volunteered as a tutor for elementary students falling behind their peers as well as those with developmental disabilities. As I traveled the world as a soldier I volunteered to teach English and mathematics literacy skills wherever I was stationed. I have also worked professionally tutoring students online. I have a cumulative total of nine years of tutoring experience and enjoy working with students with special needs. I have a lot of training and experience with Common Core mathematics and phonics instruction.
My style of tutoring includes customizing lessons to the child's specific learning style (auditory, visual, kinesthetic) and using educational material that is age and developmentally appropriate. I use games, songs, and art projects to give students opportunities to practice new skills. I have always given my students time to "echo back" what they have learned to ensure mastery of the material presented. I really enjoy these reading and math conversations with my students!
Thank you for this opportunity!
