Hello, my name is Josh.
For the past five years, I have maintained a steady clientele of students in all areas of math, including Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. Hello, my name is Josh.

I enjoy learning new material the most when I think about how I would teach it to someone else. I put this mantra into action by helping many students with whom I shared classes in college. I am especially proud of these moments because it means I had to master the material for the class well enough to teach it to someone else within the same time frame that I had to just learn it. I graduated from UConn with a BA in Mathematics.

I have worked with students of all ages in several different contexts. From high school to college to adult education, I have seen it all. This allows me to connect the different areas of math that I teach in a way that a tutor who only specializes in one area of math cannot do. I strive to show my students those connections because that's what gets them excited about math. However, I don't let that distract me from the student's immediate requirements. Homework needs to be completed, and students must be prepared to perform well on tests. I match my teaching style to both the immediate and long-term needs of the student. I also put together practice problems and other materials to reinforce the material covered in my lessons.

SAT Math

SAT Math

If you have already cracked 600 on the Math SAT, but are having trouble getting those last 200 points, then I can definitely help you. My SAT prep is simple but rigorous and effective. I focus on turning my students from test-takers into test-makers. I show my students all of the underlying patterns of SAT style questions, while also focusing on avoiding repetition of mistakes, and working on any areas of SAT math that need to be improved along the way. The College Board has published a question bank with close to 1000 official SAT style practice questions. They are broken into different difficulties and categories. I help guide my students through this question bank by showing them the underlying math and patterns that allow them to solve all problems of a given category. As my students approach their test day, they understand the test so well that they can practically write their own test questions, which I definitely have my students do as well. There are also 7 official College Board practice tests. I teach my SAT students the right way of tackling these practice tests by having specific goals of avoiding repetition of mistakes, and to be proactive in looking for how problems on the test relate to previously practiced problems. Once my students understand the underlying patterns of the SAT, then College Board is incapable of tricking them. I also have extremely in-depth conversations with my students about their feelings and perceptions in the moment of being in the testing environment to help them improve their decision making processes while under the clock. There are also many unofficial practice tests that I use with my students to trial different strategies with my students. To help my students stay organized, I have created curriculums with daily assignments that break down the thousands of official practice questions into manageable bite-sized pieces.
